Cataract

This is a cataract, a cataract is a waterfall. Along the Nile River in Egypt there were many waterfalls.
Hieroglyph

These are hieroglyphics, hieroglyphics were the first way of writing and the way Ancient Egyptians wrote important documents or books
Pharoah

This is an Egyptian pharoah. A pharoah was the ruler or king/queen of Ancient Egypt.
Incense

This is incense. Incense was burned in temples everyday so the temples would smell good to please the pharoahs.
Delta

This is the Nile delta. The Nile delta is a collection of river branches from the Nile coming together in one place.
Red land, Black land


The Ancient Egyptians called their barren landscapes red land, and their fertile soil black land.
Bureaucrats

Egyptian bureaucracy was priests and pharoahs making decisions and people giving ideas to them.
Envoys

Envoys were represantatives of the country that would travel to talk to othe rcountries or trade.
Shaduf

A shaduf was a long pole and supporter with a bucket at the end used to scoop up water from the Niler River.
Dynasty

A dynasty is a line of rulers from Ancient Egypt. Grandpa, father, son Ect.
Embalming

Embalming is the process of preserving a body after death, which was what special people did to pharoahs after they died.
Papyrus

Papyrus was their form of paper they used to write on with ink.
Theocracy

theocracy was when the pharoah/king was both the political leader, and the religious leader.
Pyramid

A pyramid is the place pharoahs tombs lay with the pharoahs favorite items and treasures. There were guards and traps because of tomb robbers who would break into the pyramid to steal the pharoahs treasures.
